    One-day Ancient City Tour

Our guide will come and get you at the appointed time, and then bring you to a dock. We will take a boat across the Irrawaddy River to ancient Mingun City.

Today's first destination is Mingun Pagoda. This spectacular pagoda was built by King Bodawpaya (1745-1819) for his wife. Although unfinished, it's still the biggest brick building in the world with a height of 50 meters (164 feet). The overall color is all brown apart from the white gate.

Next, our guide will escort you to the huge Mingun Bell. This bell is the biggest and best preserved bell in the world that is still in use, weighing 90 tons.

Then you will visit Settawya Paya. It's a white pagoda by the Irrawaddy River, enshrining a Buddha’s footprint in it.

The next spot is Hsinbyume Pagoda, built by King Bagyidaw (1784-1846) in memory of his first wife, Princess Hsinbyume. This elegant pagoda is all white with 7 storeys and each floor is surrounded by wavy railings, making it look like a cream cake from a distance, hence the name 'cream cake pagoda'.

Then our guide will accompany you to get back to Mandalay by boat and continue your private Mandalay tour to Shwenandaw Monastery, also known as Golden Palace Monastery. Converted from an imperial bedchamber, this place was finer than normal monasteries. The whole palace is based on hundreds of teak pillars to maintain good ventilation and to be damp-proof. On its exterior walls and roofs are delicate wood-carvings and its inner walls and roofs are painted gold, hence the name 'Golden Palace'.

Next, you'll be guided to the Kuthodaw Pagoda, well-known for housing the largest book in the world. 729 little white pagodas were built there to store Buddhist scriptures carved on marble tablets. It's said that it would take 1.5 year to finish reading the scriptures even if you read 8 hours every day.

The last spot of today's private Mandalay tour will be the Mandalay Hill, after which the city was named. It's said that Sakyamuni, the founder of Buddhism, once preached Buddhist sutra on the hill and since then believers come here to pilgrimage. From the top of the hill, you can have a panoramic view of the city and Irrawaddy River during sunset.

Your one-day Myanmar tour package to Mandalay comes to an end at this point. Our guide will escort you back to the hotel.
