New Wuchang Train Station to Put into Use as of Dec. 19th

After about one and a half years' expansion since last June, the waiting rooms and platforms of Wuchang Train Station will be put into use as of December 19th, 2007. This station will be the largest train station in Central China.

At present, the station has 12 waiting rooms with a capacity of 8,000 persons. Six moving staircases will be operated for passengers to get to the waiting rooms on the second floor. Three of the five platforms will be opened this time. A rain-proofing shed without columns has been constructed between the waiting rooms and the platforms to prevent passengers from the wind and the rain.

During the spring festival period, the ticketing hall will also be in service to relieve the crowding.

The 5th Silk Road Snow and Ice Festival to Start on December 26th

The 5th Silk Road Snow and Ice Festival is to start in the landmark of Urumqi - the Red Mountain Park and its surrounding ski resorts, the well-known Xuelian Shan Golf Ski Resort and the Silk Road International Ski Resort, on December 26th, 2007.

During the festival, an ice and snow group wedding ceremony and a series of ice and snow activities will be presented to visitors.

The 6th Northeast China Culture Festival to Begin on Dec. 28th

The 6th Northeast China Culture Festival will be held in Qiqihar, the second largest city of Heilongjiang Province, on December 28th, 2007. It will last until January 22nd, 2008.

Then, people in the tourism field from Russia, Hong Kong and 50 cities of over 20 Chinese mainland provinces will take part in the festival. During the festival, a series of activities will be held, including ice and snow admiration, skiing festival, juvenile snow sculpture competitions, football match on the snow land, crane culture travel, Northeast China food festival, Northeast China shopping week and so on.

Urumqi-Ashgabat Air Route to Opened on Dec. 18th

The branch company of China Southern Airlines is to open a new international air route between Urumqi and Ashgabat, capital of Turkmenistan, on December 18th, 2007.

Beijing Subway Line 2: Dongzhimen Station to Closed for 25 Days

Due to the reconstruction of the automatic ticketing and checking system, Dongzhimen Station (东直门站) of Subway Line 2 in Beijing will be closed for 25 days from December 16th, 2007 to January 9th, 2008.

During the construction period, the number of the Bus No. 46 near the Dongzhimen Station will be increased temporarily. Passengers who usually take Subway Line 2 can take buses or walk to Yonghegong (Yonghe Lamasery) (雍和宫) or Dongsishitiao (东四十条) stations to take the Subway Line 2; passengers of Subway Line 13 changing to Subway Line 2 at Dongzhimen Station can change to Subway Line 5 at Lishui Bridge Station (立水桥站) to enter the city or they can take buses after reaching Dongzhimen Station; passengers who take Subway Line 2 from Wangjing West Station (望京西站) to Liufang Station (柳芳站) can take Subway Line 5 nearby.

Jiuzhaigou: Fourth Ice-waterfall Tourism Festival to Start

The Fourth Jiuzhaigou Ice-waterfall Tourism Festival is to start on the New Years' Day of 2008. It will last until March 31st, 2008.

During the festival, a series of activities will be held, including the tourism forum, tourism promotion conference, photography exhibition, Christmas and New Year's Day parties and Jiuzhaigou culture competition.

In addition, visitors can experience folk-custom and flavor performances of the Tibetan and Qiang peoples. Meanwhile, visitors can fully enjoy themselves by taking part in a series of ice and snow activities outside such as skiing, skating, riding horse - draw sleigh, riding bikes and motorbikes on the snow and so on.

Yangtze River: Cruise Ship Tickets to Rise as of Dec. 15th

Influenced by the rise of the fuel price, the Chongqing-Yichang and Wanzhou-Yichang cruise ship tickets price and ordinary tickets price for passenger ships of Yangtze River cruise will be adjusted up by 5-40% and 8-25% respectively as of December 15th, 2007.
