Lhasa: Time Restriction to Visit Potala Palace Begins

News from Potala Palace said that the visiting time of group tourists would be restricted to one hour during the July and August due to the lack of tickets. For a better protection of this ancient palace, the Potala allows only 2,300 tourists each day. Now due to the swarming tourists during the peak season, Potala Palace hopes the time restriction can solve the problem. The Jokhang Temple also started this restriction since May, 2007.

Direct D Train between Chongqing and Chengdu to Launch

The first non-stop D train between Chongqing and Chengdu will leave Chongqing North Station at 07:50, July 7, 2007. The train will arrive at Chengdu at 11:11 in the noon. The returning train, T884, will leave Chengdu at 11:41 and arrive at Chongqing North Station at 15:09. The first class soft seat ticket price is CNY 104 and the second class soft seat ticket is CNY 87. One can buy the tickets 5 days in advance. It is also said the original Chongqing-Chengdu trains, T886 and T890, which will cost 4.5 hours are still running. The hard seat price of these trains is CNY 51 while the soft is CNY 78.

Direct Flight from Guangzhou to Rangoon Opens

China Southern Airways opened the first direct flight from Guangzhou to Rangoon, the capital city of Burma on July 2, 2007. The flight will fly off from Guangzhou at 09:00 and arrive at Rangoon at 12:00, every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. The return flight takes off at 13:00 and arrives at Guangzhou at 16:10.

Lijiang: Admission Fee of Old Town to Appreciate

News from Yunnan Province said that the admission fee of Lijiang Old Town will be appreciated to CNY 80 per person as of July 1, 2007. For a better protection of the ancient town, the departments involved decided to hike the price from CNY 40 to CNY 80.

Direct Flight from Lanzhou to Lhasa Launches

According to Xinhua News Agency, China Hainan Airways started to operate a direct flight from Lanzhou to Lhasa on June 15, 2007. The new airline operated by Airbus 319 takes off at 13:30 from Lanzhou and arrives at Lhasa at 16:00, everyday. The returning flight flies off at 17:05 and arrives at 19:35.
