Nanning-Xining Route to Launch

News from Qinghai Airport Company shows that China Southern Airlines (China Southern) plans to start Nanning-Xining route on Mar. 27, 2007. The opening of the new flights will accelerate the cooperation of Qinghai and Guangxi Province and benefit to the tourism of both sides.

It is reported that the new air route adopting Boeing 737-800 will fly from Nanning at 8:00 and arrive at Xining at 11:40, every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. The return flight will take off at 12:20 from Xining and arrive at Nanning at 16:10 on the same day.

Civil Aviation Administration of China: New Security Measures for Liquids Unveils

According to the news from Xinhua Agency, a new measure for liquids onboard will be put into practice as of May 1, 2007, said the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).

According to the new measures, less than 1 liter liquids, excluding alcohol, can be brought onboard for passengers on civil flight. The liquids must be opened and checked before boarding. Less than 100 ml liquids can be brought along for international flights’ passenger. The liquids should be sealed in a transparent plastic bag with a capacity not greater than 1 liter. The plastic bag has to be presented separately from other cabin baggage and only one plastic bag for one passenger is permitted.

Foreign passengers who transfer in China's airport should also obey the above-mentioned measures. Plus, the tax-free liquids entering to China should be carried in a sealed transparent plastic bag and the voucher for the liquids is a must.

The new measure also pointed out that alcohol can not be carried as cabin baggage on civil flights. However necessary liquid medicines for suffering passenger and milk for infant can be brought along after security check.

Northern Area of Mogao Caves to Open to Public

It is reported that the northern area of Mogao Caves which had undergone a two-year renovation will be open to public according to the departments involved. But until now a detailed time table for the opening is still under discussion.

Suffering thousands of years' natural eroding and human destruction, the caves in northern area of Mogao Caves is in a terrible situation. For a better preservation, State Administration of Culture Heritage approved the renovation in 2004. A lot of precious cultural relics have been found during the archaeological process and experts believe that the caves in northern area were the residential area for monks. The opening of northern area is expected to reduce the pressure of southern area, where now receives millions of tourists every year.

Replica of Potala Palace to Built in Lhasa

Qin Yizhi, the secretary of Lhasa City, told the public that a mini Potala Palace will be built to solve the ticket problem caused by the increasing tourists. The mini Potala will be a replica with advanced special effects and some treasures from Potala Palace for visitors to know the history of Tibet and Potala.

Qin said that Lhasa City hopes to start the construction later this year. Due to the opening of Qinghai-Tibet Railway, more and more tourists came to visit Tibet last year, which makes the ticket booking of Potala Palace faced a terrible situation. Lhasa City hopes that the replica of Potala Palace can satisfy some of the tourists. The involving departments are also considering online booking system to help visitors to buy tickets. Qin also promised that the ticket price of Potala Palace will not be appreciated again.

Beijing Olympics to Ban Smoking in Important Olympic Venues

It is reported that Beijing will ban smoking in public area during the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Smoking in some important Olympic venues will be banned thoroughly while other venues will have smoking area and non-smoking area.

Besides, for a better service during the Olympic Games, Beijing is also going to choose some demonstrated shops, restaurants, hotels, etc. The data of tourism related staffs will also be recorded in national data base, which can help with the management of the staffs.

Ticket Price and Official Ticketing Website for Beijing Olympics Unveiled

The Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) announced yesterday (Mar. 8th) that the official ticketing website (www.tickets.beijing2008.cn) was launched. Besides, ticket price of each game, excluding Road Cycling and Sailing, was also published.

From next month, people living in mainland China can submit booking application to the ticketing website or the branches of Bank of China appointed by BOCOG. Mainland Chinese residence wanting to book the ticket should hold valid identification cards or certification. Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan residence should hold valid passport or home-return permit. Expats living in China want to book the ticket should have valid passport which is issued by one's nationality county and Chinese visa which is valid for at least 6 month. People not living in mainland China have to consult local Olympic Organizing Committee.

The ticket price for opening ceremony varies from CNY 200 to 5,000 while the price for closing ceremony is from CNY 150 to 3,000. Ticket price for most of the preliminary contests is from CNY 30 to 300 and final contests' ticket price between CNY 60 and 1,000. 14% tickets are kept as special tickets for youngsters, of which the preliminary contests' ticket price is CNY 5 and final contests' ticket price is CNY 10.

Shanghai Expo to Release the First Ticket Next September

It is reported that World Exposition 2010 in Shanghai will release the first ticket which is expected to be 20 USD in September, 2008, one month after the Beijing Olympics. There will also be other choices for the Shanghai Expo, such as Collective Ticket, Monthly Ticket and Weekly Ticket.

Shanghai Expo will be the first World Exposition with the theme of City and 103 countries and 14 international organizations were assured to attend the Shanghai Expo up to Feb. 26, 2007. The location of Shanghai Expo will be the waterfront of the Huangpu River between Nanpu Bridge and Lupu Bridge, downtown Shanghai.

Direct Charter Flights between Guiyang and Kuala Lumpur to Launch

It is reported that the agreement of opening the direct charter flights between Guiyang and Kuala Lumpur was signed on Mar. 2, 2007. According to the agreement, there will be at least one direct flight a week between Guiyang and Kuala Lumpur as of this May, when the agreement achieves.

HK Airport to Present New Security Measures on Cabin Baggage

The New Security Measures for Cabin Baggage at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), which is a new measure for screening liquids, gels and aerosol, will bring into effect as of March 21, 2007 to conform to the new guidelines of the International Civil Aviation Organization.

The new security measures for cabin baggage at HKIA published on the official website of HK Civil Aviation Department are:
1. All liquids, gels, aerosols in cabin baggage have to be carried in containers with a capacity not greater than 100 ml. Liquids, gels, aerosols carried in containers larger than 100 ml will not be accepted, even if the container is only part-filled.
2. Containers have to be placed as encapsulation in a transparent plastic bag of a maximum capacity not exceeding one liter. The containers must fit comfortably within the sealed transparent plastic bag.
3. The plastic bag has to be presented separately from other cabin baggage for visual examination at the screening point. Only one transparent plastic bag per passenger is permitted.
4. Exemptions will be made for medications, baby milk/food and special dietary requirements subject to verification.

It is also reported that the airports of Japan, South Korea, Australia, and New Zealand also began to follow this new rule since the end of February. United Airlines and Northwest Airlines set off similar rules for their flights. All the passengers departing from India as well as the flights of Air India, Air India Express are prohibited to take any liquid, gel and aerosol.
