The 4th Dalian Cultural Festival to Start as of Jan. 25th

The Fourth Dalian Cultural Festival is to be held from January 25th to February 3rd, 2008 at Dalian Star-Sea Convention and Exhibition Center.

During the festival, there will be many performances such as lion and dragon dances, waist drum, suona (a kind of trumpet) and Yangge (a kind of folk dance). Additionally, four theme exhibitions of Chinese folk cultures and arts such as spring festival couplets and featured New Year goods will also be held in four separate exhibition areas covering a total area of over 2,000 square meters (2,392 square yards).

Lhasa-Katmandu Int'l Through Coach Restarted as of Jan. 1st 2008

Lhasa-Katmandu international through coach has restarted its normal operation since January 1st, 2008. The first bus had left for Katmandu from Lhasa on January 15th.

Originally opened on May 1st, 2005, it is the first international landway passenger route between China and Nepal. After the restoration, there is one bus on Tuesdays every week leaving at 09:00 o'clock from Liuwu Bus Station. It will take about three days for a single trip. The ticket price is USD 70 equaling to about CNY 520. Passengers to the two destinations can buy the tickets with their domestic currencies, passports, visas and ID cards.

Besides two drivers, there is one attendant on the bus who can speak Chinese, Tibetan, Nepali and English, so communication is not the problem. In addition, the bus is equipped with water equipment and medicine cabinet with necessary medicines in such as altitude stress, carsickness and cold medicines.

For the convenience of the passengers, the ticketing office especially set up an inquiry phone number 0898-6947216, through which passengers can check the ticket price, departure time and even seat numbers.

Beijing: Shichahai Ice Stadium Opened on Jan. 12th

Beijing Shichahai Ice Stadium has been opened since January 12th, 2008, which is over ten days later than the former years.

Located in the Xicheng District of Beijing, the ice stadium takes up a total area of 40,000 square meters (10 acres). Covering an area of 18,000 square meters (4 acres), the skating area has been equipped with lights for night use, non-skating area caution signs and some security guarantee facilities.

The 14th Zigong International Dinosaur Lantern Show to Start as of Jan. 16th

The 14th Zigong International Dinosaur Lantern Show is to start as of January 16th, 2008. It will last 138 days until June 17th, 2008.

A total of 112 sets of large and medium-sized lanterns will be exhibited at the main exhibition area of Zigong Lantern Park. Meanwhile, another 150 sets of lanterns and tens of thousands of red decorated lanterns will be displayed in the 17 main streets and the riverside area of Fuxi River in Zigong City. Besides, a national Chinese painting exhibition will also be held during the lantern show.

The ticket price is CNY 50 per person from February 7th to 13th, 2008. During the rest time, the ticket price is CNY 30.

Ground-breaking Ceremony of Beijing-Shanghai High Speed Railway to Held on Jan. 18th

The ground-breaking ceremony of Beijing-Shanghai High Speed Railway is to be held on January 18th, 2008. It's predicted that it will take about five years to finish the huge project.

This railway is 1,318 kilometers (819 miles) long and will be constructed with 21 stops, including Beijing, Tianjin, Jinan, Bengbu, Nanjing and Shanghai. The designed average speed of the whole route is 300 kilometers (186 miles) per hour, and the highest speed is 350 kilometers (217 miles) per hour. When it is put into use, it will only take five hours from Beijing to Shanghai, which is five hours shorter than the present fastest Beijing-Shanghai multiple-unit trains.
