Question: What are the 'must see' attractions for my first trip to China?

Answer: For the first trip, we recommend Beijing--to see the Great Wall, Xian--to see the Terra Cotta Warriors, and Guilin--to see the picturesque nature beauty. If you have enough time, a Yangtze River cruise, and the Tibet and Silk Road tours are recommended as well. We have many ready-made itineraries for your reference. Please click here.

Question: Is November a good time to visit China?

Answer: It depends on your destinations. China is a large country, and the climate varies in different regions. Generally speaking, spring to autumn (March to November) is the best time to visit north China. South China is comfortable for travel except in summer. April to October is the best time to visit China, except for the periods of the May Holiday (May 1st – May 7th) and the National Holiday (Oct 1st – Oct 7th), when transportation and tourist destinations are very crowded.

Question: Can I use US dollars in China? What about credit cards?

Answer: The US dollar is not widely accepted, but major international credit cards, such as VISA, MasterCard, American Express and Diners Club, are widely accepted in big cities, banks and hotels. Chinese currency can be drawn from the ATMs of the Bank of China by credit cards. Restaurants usually do not accept credit card.

Question: Where can I exchange my money for Chinese currency?

Answer: You can easily change your money at hotels or at the bank.

Question: I'm worried about getting altitude sickness in Tibet. Any suggestions?

Answer: It is quite normal for people to have slight altitude sickness symptoms when in Tibet, such as shortness of breath, headache or insomnia. But there is nothing to worry about because these symptoms will disappear after two or three days when your body adjusts to the high altitude.

The most important thing is to stay optimistic and to realize that the sickness will pass.
Also, make sure you have no problems with respiratory or other internal organs. And make sure that you do not have a cold.

After landing at Tibet, have a good rest. Do not do anything strenuous on the first and second days.

Make sure that you wear the appropriate amount of clothing for the weather. Being cold in a remote area--where medical conditions are relatively poor--is very dangerous. Do not take baths too frequently to avoid catching cold. We do not recommend taking a shower the first day you arrive.

If you feel uncomfortable, make sure to go to the hospital immediately.

Question: What should I keep in mind when I meet Tibetans?

Answer: Tibetan people are very kind and hospitable but you should always remember to respect their religion.
1) Do not touch Buddhist statues or sutras or take pictures inside temples or monasteries.
2) Do not smoke in temples or monasteries.
3) Do not step on the threshold of any temple, monastery, house or tent.
4) Do not touch anyone on the head.
5) Do not take pictures of Tibetans without their permission.
6) Do not eat meat of horses, dogs or donkeys.
7) Walk clockwise around and inside of religious buildings or facilities, such as temples, monasteries, pagodas and mani stones.

Question: Is it better to join in a tour or to travel independently?

Answer: If you travel independently, you can go at your own pace, but you will have to make all the arrangements such as booking hotels, purchasing flight or train tickets, and finding a touring vehicle at a reasonable fare. The biggest problem is the language barrier. It might take you a long time to find a public vehicle or several hours to purchase tickets waiting in queue.
The best choice will be have a private tour, scheduled and arranged for your time and pleasure.
