Fly to Las Vegas by yourself. On arrival transfer to hotel located close to the famous Strip. This evening after dinner there will be a welcome briefing then time to explore this vibrant city.
Early morning transfer (5 hours approx.) to the Grand Canyon North Rim. Time permitting after checking into our accommodation well have chance to explore the area around the lodge. The nearby viewpoint offers panoramic vistas over the Grand Canyon National Park. This evening we hear more about the week ahead from our guides.
Take in unforgettable views of the Grand Canyons wild northern borders! Explore the remote Kaibab Plateau rising high above the magnificent Grand Canyon. This is mountain biking at its best with winding single-track through ponderosa and aspen forests and stunning views into the Grand Canyon. The combination of high desert vistas, forest trails and alpine meadows make for an incredibly scenic route.
Morning transfer to the Johnson Canyon road (80 miles / 2 hours approx.) Cycle off-road heading northeast along the boundary of the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument. This high, rugged, and remote region of dramatic plateaux and multi-hued cliffs was the last place in the continental USA to be mapped. The route goes up and down, crosses dozens of small canyons and brooks and takes us through some spectacular scenery. By late afternoon we reach the road. Short transfer (10 miles / 20 minutes approx.) to our overnight hotel just outside Bryce Canyon National Park. All in all not a very long ride but quite a challenging day.
Leave Bryce Canyon (7800 feet / 2400 metres) and continue in a westerly direction. Stop for a break after 12 miles near the Red Canyon with its distinctive bright red cliffs and hoodoos (tall thin spires of rock). From there turn onto a busier road heading south but the wide hard shoulder will allow a safe and comfortable ride. A mile after the small town of Hatch (6800 feet / 2000 metres) leave the main road to go off-road through Dixie National Forest which stretches for about 170 miles across southern Utah. Well enjoy amazing views and encounter undulating terrain. This afternoon we approach Stout Canyon (6400 feet / 1950 metres) and enjoy a welcome downhill stretch, outstanding scenery, different species of trees and a hint of Switzerland. From here well transfer one hour approx. to our overnight hotel in Springdale, a picturesque town located near the southern entrance of Zion National Park.
A full day to explore the beauty of Zion National Park. The area was given its heavenly name by 19th century Mormons, who saw the huge rocks as natural temples. At Zion we will actually be inside the canyon as opposed to the Grand Canyon and Bryce where we looked down into the canyons from above. The main road leads right into the heart of the park where the giant orange and red sandstone walls of the canyon rise all around. We leave our bikes to embark on a 4 - 5 hour trek along Weeping Rock Trail. The route leads up to an observation point to view the canyon from above. The hike and the scenery from the top of the cliff are breathtaking. In the afternoon we return to the same hotel in Springdale. This evening we enjoy a special dinner to celebrate the end of the ride.
Morning transfer back to Las Vegas (about 2.5 hours). The rest of the day is free to explore this vibrant city.
