9 Days Trip of Mongolia: Ulaanbaatar - Ongi temple - Yol canyon - Khongoryn Els sand dunes - Bayanzag - Flaming Cliffs - Erdene Zuu monastery - Khustai National Park - Khar Khorin ancient city


Departure: Daily 


 Day 01: Arrival in Mongolia
Take an international flight to Ulaanbaatar, which is the capital and the largest city of Mongolia. The rest of the time is free for you to explore the city on your own.


 Day 02: Ulaanbaatar
You will spend the whole day visiting Ulaanbaatar. During the tour, you will visit some famous tourist attractions including Gandantegchilen Monaster and Suhbaatar Square. Gandantegchilen Monaster is a Tibetan Buddhist monastery and it is also the largest one in Mongolia. Suhbaatar Square, located in the center of Ulaanbaatar, is named after the founding father and leader of revolution—Damdin Sükhbaatar. At night, you will go to a concert to enjoy the traditional music of Mongolia. 


 Day 03: Ongi temple
Today you will drive to Dalanzadgad in Omnogobi province to visit Ongi temple, which is located in Middle Gobi. Middle Gobi is a magical and attractive land. There are not only a wide range of wild animals and plants, but also many historical sites as famous as Ongi temple. What’s more, Ongi temple is one of the oldest temples with a history of more than 200 years in the desert area in Mongolia.


 Day 04: Yol canyon
You will leave for Yol canyon in the morning. On the way to Yol canyon, you can see camels grazing on the prairie and the boundless blue sky. You can enjoy such picturesque scenery for the whole day. After lunch, you will arrive at Yol canyon and make an excursion there which is surrounded by Three Beauties of Gobi and Altai Mountain. You will have a tour around tourists’ camps by riding camels.


 Day 05:Khongoryn Els sand dunes – Bayanzag - Flaming Cliffs
In the morning, you will transfer to visit Khongoryn Els sand dunes. Before reaching your destination, you will visit Bayanzag, in which there is the largest saxaul forest and Flaming Cliffs. In 1920s, Roy Andrew Chapman found fossils of dinosaurs and dinosaur eggs in Bayanzag and then it attracted lots of archeologists. After that, you will pay a visit to the local families of nomadic people to have a better understanding of their daily life, including tasting the traditional food. Late in the afternoon, you will leave for Khongoryn Els sand dunes. 


 Day 06: Erdene Zuu monastery
The morning tour will take you to visit the Erdene Zuu monastery. On the way, you will also visit local nomadic people. The whole day will be spent on exploring the traditions and culture of Mongolia.


 Day 07: Erdene Zuu monastery - Khar Khorin ancient city
Today you will first visit the site of Kara-Korum, which was the capital of the Mongol Empire ruled by Genghis Khan in the 12th century. At the same time, you will visit Erdene Zuu monastery. Erdene Zuu monastery, also named Guangxian monastery, is not only the first monastery for the Gelug sect (the Dalai Lama's denomination), but also the first center of Buddhism in Mongolia. Now, it is a very important cultural heritage in Mongolia. Surprisingly, you will never find a nail on the buildings of this monastery. At its peak, there are nearly a hundred temples and thousands of Lamas.  


 Day 08: Khustai National Park - Ulaanbaatar
Drive back to Ulaanbaatar Today. On the way, you will first go to Khustai National Park. Here you can see endless green hills and grasslands. What’s more, it is also the breeding center of the best przewalski's horse, which is endangered species in the world. Besides the przewalski's horse, you can also find the wild wolves, wild deer and eagles here. In the gallery, the guide will give a brief introduction to przewalski's horse and then he will lead us to look for the wild przewalski's horse. You will arrive at Ulaanbaatar in the late afternoon.

 
 Day 09: Departure from Mongolia
The morning is free for you. After lunch, you will transfer to the airport to board the homeward flight and put an end to this fantastic cultural tour of Mongolia.
