Being the sixth largest continent in the world, Europe is very densely populated. 64% of its population lives in urban areas. It has a large number of peninsulas, islands, harbors and continental seas due to its twisted coastline. Its highest mountain range, the Alps, is at an average altitude of about 3,000 meters. At the piedmont of the Alps, there are many moraine and structural lakes, such as the famous resort - Lake Geneva. South Europe and Iceland off the north of the continent have many volcanoes. Geothermal resources are plentiful with most areas of Europe being located in the North Temperate Zone. The climate is quite warm and humid.
