- Zhang Fei Temple was built in honor of the valiant general Zhang Fei of the Three Kingdoms Period (220 - 280). Legend has it that in order to avenge his blood brother Guan Yu, Zhang Fei hurried his two underlings to make funeral clothes but was killed by them with his head thrown into the river. After his death, a fisherman met with him in a dream and fished out his head as well as a surprising jar of gold. He used the gold to construct this temple. Afterwards during the next 1,700 years, succeeding dynasties added extensions.
