Day 01 - Entry Salzburg
Arrival in Salzburg and meet your Inghams tour guide at the airport. Transfer to the Hotel Gablerbrau, located directly in Salzburg's old town.
Day 02 - Salzburg (Salzkammergut Lake District)
Visit Mondsee and St. Gilgen, bith attractive lakeside resorts. Mondsee is famous for the "Sound of Music"wedding church and St. Gilgen for Mozart's statue and the house of his mother. Go onto picturesque St. Wolfgang and time to treat yourself to a coffee at the lakeside White House Inn. Then visit the pretty lakeside village of Hallstatt. After dinner we take a stroll through Salzburg's old town. This will be an evening to remember. The historic old town, where Mozart was born, is full of atmosphere and particularly lovely at night. There is free time to take the lift up to the Monchsberg (appox. £2 return) for panoramic city views. (B+L)
Day 03 - Salzburg (Hellbrunn Palace watergardens)
A morning visit to the Hellbrunn Palace watergardens just outside Salzburg. Dive back to the centre where the rest of the day is free to discover the sights of the city on your own. Walk in the Mirabell Palace gardens and wander the medieval streets of the romantic old town. (B+L)
Day 04 - Salzburg/Vienna
Depart hotel after breakfast and travel to the delightful old town of Steyr and, after a short stop, on to Melk dominated by the magnificent abbey. Here you may board a Danube steamer for a two hour optional cruise to Krems traveling through the rolling countryside of the Wachau valley, Austria's wine-growing region (approx. approx. £18). Rejoin the coach at Krems and continue to Baden, south of Vienna, arriving at the Parkhotel Baden in the late afternoon. (B+L)
Day 05 - Vienna
Take a morning visit to Vienna including the Schonbrunn Palace, with its magnificent reception rooms. Then we drive past the lovely Belvedere Palace and around Vienna's famous "Ringstrasse" viewing its magnificent buildings, the State Opera House and Hofburg Palace, former Imperial residence. The afternoon is free to relax. In the evening we make an optional visit to the wine growing village of Grinzing with traditional "schrammel music" (with romantic violins) and dinner (£23 approx.) Day 06 - Vienna/Graz
Depart Baden and travel to Graz, provincial capital of Styria. After lunch, there is free time to explore this lovely old town which was Europe's Cultural Capital in 2003. Continue on to Villach, Carinthia and the welcoming Hotel Alte Post. (B+L)
Day 07 - Graz
After a free morning in Villach, drive through southern Austria's lush farming valleys, via the little market town of Spittal, to Lienz, the sub-tropical capital of East Tirol. Lienz, centred on its colourful market square, nestles amidst stunning mountain scenery. After dinner at the hospital Hotel Sonne in Lienz, join the Tyrolean folk dancing evening (approx. £14). Day 08 - Graz
A full day optional excursion to the spectacular Italian Dolomite mountains, including visits to the alpine ski resort of Cortina d'Ampezzo and the beautiful Lake Misurina surrounded by majestic 10,000 ft. peaks (approx. £20). (B+L)
Day 09 - Graz/Tyrol (Innsbruck)
Depart Lienz and drive via the pretty mountain village of Heiligenblut along the magnificently engineered Grossglockner High Alpine Road with its stunning views of the glaciers and mountains including the Grossglockner itself, Austria's highest peak (12,458 ft.) Continue on via Bruck, Mittersill and Pass Thurn to picturesque and internationally renowned Kitzbühel before reaching Seefeld in Tyrol, an attractive villlage high above Innsbruck. Stay at Hotel Schönruh. (B+L)
Day 10 - Tyrol (Innsbruck)
A morning excursion around Tirol's capital and historic town of Innsbruck. On the way we view the impressive new Olympic ski jump and rooftop restaurant at Berg Isel (designed by London-based architect Zaha Hadid) and also the beautiful Wilten Basilica. Return to Seefeld and enjoy the afternoon at leisure. Later there is the chance to join the optional Tyrolean Evening in Innsbruck (approx £14). (B+L)
Day 11 - Departure from Salzburg or Innsbruck
Transfer from Seefeld to Sazburg or Innsbruck airport and see off. (B)
